This 3.5″ case was launched in 1900 and was meant to be a low pressure round to avoid some of the extraction difficulties that other cases experienced during the period of transition from blackpowder to smokeless.  Aside from the size of the case, the most noticeable difference is the much thicker rim, than seen on most other British cartridges.
